At Greenway Lane Art Studio, we like to think we’ve got the best of both worlds: a cosy, creative space and one of Ireland’s most beautiful walking and cycling trails running right through our property. Yes—the legendary Great Western Greenway literally passes next to our art cafe.
If you’ve ever dreamed of pairing a morning cycle with an afternoon of painting (or vice versa), you’re in the right place.
🚲 Art Studio on the Move (or… on the Greenway!)
Being just outside Newport, Co. Mayo, we get visitors from everywhere: families pedalling past with picnic baskets, weekend explorers, and seasoned cyclists cruising through on their way toward Achill or Westport. Many of them spot our studio sign, slow the brakes, and think:
“Hang on… an art studio here?” “And they have coffee and cake”!!
Yes! And we love the surprise.
🎨 Greenway Lane: Where Landscapes Become Paintings
With the surrounding boglands, wild skies, and ever-changing Mayo light, it’s impossible not to feel inspired out here. Some days the mountains look mysterious and moody… other days they glow like they’re holding onto the last bit of sunset.
This is exactly why we started offering:
- Plein-air painting sessions right off the Greenway
- Creative workshops if you want a breather
- Painting classes inspired by the local landscape
- Summer Kids’ outdoor nature-and-art days (little ones love spotting birds, trees, colours, and textures!)
🛠️ Greenway Pit-Stop… for Artists
We may not fix your bike chain (not yet anyway), but we can refill the imagination tank and nourish you for the rest of your journey. Many visitors tell us that stopping here becomes a highlight of their Greenway trip.
You can pop in for:
- A quick quick coffee or a long lunch
- A cup of tea while browsing artworks
- A look at our class schedule
- Or simply to sit and enjoy the views including our alpacas—because let’s be honest, Mayo scenery is basically therapy
🌿 The Beauty of Being a Greenway Neighbor
The rhythm of the Greenway gives the cafe & studio a special energy. Some mornings we hear nothing but birds and brushstrokes… and then suddenly a cheerful burst of cyclists appear. Some afternoons a family strolls in, coated in fresh air and smiles, asking what’s happening in the studio today.
It’s this blend of movement, nature, and creativity that makes Greenway Lane such a joyful place to be.
